Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Reddit AI Fact Checker browser extension and its associated fact-checking functions for Reddit. It covers data handled by the extension itself and data sent to FactLens-operated, configured, or managed services when necessary to complete a check, authenticate an account, provide subscription access, or return evidence and results.
Information the extension may process
Account and authentication information
- Account name and email address used for sign in.
- Authentication session data, tokens, or related login-state information required to keep you signed in and determine access to subscription features.
- Subscription or entitlement status needed to determine which FactLens features are available to your account.
Content you ask FactLens to check
When you start a fact check, the extension may process the Reddit content associated with that request. Depending on the content and feature used, this can include:
- The Reddit post, comment, image, linked content, or other supported Reddit content you specifically request to check.
- Post text, comment text, selected text, images, captions where present, links, and other content associated with the requested check.
- Claims or excerpts selected or derived from that content for verification.
Page and browsing context associated with a check
- The current page URL associated with the fact-check request.
- The current page title or content title associated with the fact-check request.
- Other limited page context required to identify the specific content you requested FactLens to check.
Chrome may classify this type of information as website content or browsing activity even when it is processed only to perform a user-requested extension feature.
Results and evidence
- Claims extracted from the content you ask FactLens to check.
- Fact-check verdicts, explanations, confidence or status information, and related result data.
- Evidence references, source links, search results, and other supporting material used to produce or display a result.
Local history and settings
- Extension settings and preferences.
- Local fact-check history or locally cached result data, where the relevant feature stores it.
- Local state needed for extension UI behavior, authentication state, or continuity between sessions.
Data stored locally in the browser is still user data. You may be able to remove local extension data by clearing the extension's data, using any available history controls, signing out where applicable, or uninstalling the extension.
How FactLens uses this information
FactLens may use the information described above to:
- Authenticate your account and maintain your sign-in session.
- Confirm subscription access, quotas, entitlements, or other feature availability.
- Receive and process the specific content you ask FactLens to check.
- Extract claims, search for relevant evidence, analyze sources, and generate fact-check results.
- Return verdicts, explanations, evidence, and source links to the extension.
- Preserve local settings, local history, and extension state where those features are enabled.
- Protect the service, diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and maintain reliable operation.
AI, transcription, search, and evidence services
Completing a requested fact check may require FactLens to send relevant data to configured or managed third-party or infrastructure services that provide AI analysis, transcription, search, evidence retrieval, hosting, or related processing.
The data sent depends on the feature you use and may include the content being checked, extracted claims, selected text, images, captions, post text, links, page URL or title, transcripts, search queries, or other context needed to complete the requested check. These services process the data as part of the FactLens workflow and may operate under their own terms and privacy practices.
Data sharing and disclosure
FactLens may disclose data to service providers or subprocessors when that disclosure is required to provide the requested functionality, such as authentication, AI analysis, transcription, evidence search, result delivery, infrastructure, or security operations.
FactLens may also disclose information when required by applicable law, legal process, or a valid governmental request, or when reasonably necessary to protect the rights, security, and integrity of FactLens, its users, or others.
Data retention
Different categories of data may be retained for different periods depending on the feature, operational need, account state, local browser storage, and the services involved in completing a check. Local history and settings may remain in the browser until they are deleted, cleared, replaced, or the extension is removed. Data handled by external service providers may also be subject to those providers' retention and processing practices.
FactLens does not state that every piece of user data is immediately deleted after a check.
Security
FactLens uses technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect information handled by the extension and its supporting services. No browser extension, network transmission, storage system, or third-party processing service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Your choices
- You decide when to initiate a fact check and which supported content to submit for checking.
- You can avoid sending content for analysis by not initiating a check for that content.
- You can sign out where sign-out controls are available.
- You can clear locally stored extension data using available extension or browser controls.
- You can uninstall the extension to stop future extension processing on your device.
Children's privacy
FactLens is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe information relating to a child has been handled improperly, contact FactLens through the official support channel identified in the extension listing or FactLens website.
